White Burgundy wine, in this case an Unoaked Chardonnay from as much as 85-year-old vines on clay-limestone soil that completely overturns the simple image of Village wines. Domaine de Naisse Mâcon-Villages ‘Happy-Naisse’. The latest addition to the name reveals the style and idea of the winemaker. And they have succeeded with this lively, playful, but above all delicious wine. Awarded, and not without reason, with a Médaille d'Or at the Concours des vins de Lyon 2023.
The 2022 vintage is already praised as a top year. A classic vintage in the good sense, where the characteristic juiciness comes beautifully to the fore. In contrast to the 2021 vintage, where the harvest was sparse but showed wonderful freshness and tension.
A Burgundy from the Mâcon region, so of course made from Chardonnay. And from 85-year-old vines! That is quite remarkable in this price range. The wine has a fruity and sultry aroma that immediately reminds you of a warm summer evening. Taste notes of citrus, pineapple, green apple, white flowers, stewed fruit, and even a hint of muscat, but all presented with a light, fresh, dry mouthfeel.
Slowly, new vineyards are being acquired, and currently, the winery counts approximately 20 ha of vines, with the oldest being around 90 years old! The wines of Domaine de Naisse are characterized as extra rich due to the clay and limestone-like soil and the many hours of sunshine they enjoy. Viré-Clessé is known for it, but this Mâcon-Villages undeniably has this 'terroir'.
Perfect for an aperitif, but also goes well with tasty summer salads, hummus, roasted eggplant, BBQ, fried oysters, and rich fish. In short, very versatile! Serve this wine not too cold. Around 14 degrees Celsius is when the aromas come forward the best.
Viré-Clessé 2022, Domaine de Naisse
Where the sun always shines. Domaine de Naisse, Brenot-Beranger is located in a beautiful spot in the south of Burgundy. The winery is situated in the village of Laizé, the southernmost point of the Mâconnais, where it feels like the sun always shines. Currently, this is a staple for our Friday afternoon drinks paired with homemade hummus that complement each other perfectly. The wines from Domaine de Naisse are characterized as extra rich due to the clay and limestone-like soil and the many hours of sun they enjoy. In 2020, winemaker Elodie was honored as the best talent of the Mâconnais with the prestigious GJPV Young Talents Trophy. Exactly the kind of talent we are looking for!
The Mâconnais is particularly known for its white wines, which are mainly made from the Chardonnay grape. The region has numerous appellations, of which Mâcon-Villages, Viré-Clessé, Pouilly-Fuissé, and Saint-Véran are the most prominent. These wines are fresh, fruity, and often characterized by a fine minerality reminiscent of top wines from northern Burgundy but with a softer and more accessible style. The wines from the Mâconnais often have a distinct terroir that subtly varies by village, giving each bottle its own character.
At Burgundy or Nowhere, you will find an extensive selection of Mâconnais wines, from well-known names to hidden gems. We are particularly excited about the wines from Domaine de la Chapelle, whose Saint-Véran is known for its impressive depth and complexity at a reasonable price. The Pouilly-Fuissé AX-B from the same domaine is also an excellent choice for those looking for a high-quality Mâconnais experience without the high price of the Côte d'Or. Our goal is to offer wines where the price reflects what is in the bottle and not just the name on the label.
