Domaine de Naisse Viré-Clessé is an impressive white Bourgogne wine from the rich 2022 vintage. Viré-Clessé, located in the heart of the Mâconnais in southern Bourgogne, is known as one of the finest terroirs. Thanks to the sunny location and the clay and limestone soil, this wine is exceptionally rich. Made from 100% Chardonnay, it has a radiant golden color. The wine ages for 50% in stainless steel tanks and 50% in oak barrels. Enjoy fresh aromas such as citrus fruits, peach, and pear. These flavors also carry through to the taste, with a surprising hint of salt in the fruity finish. The minerals combine with the rich fruit to create perfect harmony. This wine is lively, fresh, fruity, and full of flavor. It also has parallels with a Meursault in terms of structure and weight in the glass without feeling too heavy.
Slowly, new vineyards are being acquired, and the winery currently has about 20 ha of vines, the oldest of which are about 90 years old! The wines of Domaine de Naisse are characterized by their extra richness due to the clay and limestone soil type and the many hours of sunshine they enjoy.
Perfect as an aperitif, but also with delicious summer salads, hummus, roasted eggplants, BBQ, fried oysters, and rich fish. Wonderful when paired with a well-cooked piece of fish or white meat. In short, it's very versatile!
Where the sun always shines. Domaine de Naisse, Brenot-Beranger is located in a beautiful spot in the south of Bourgogne. The winery is situated in the village of Laizé, the southernmost point of the Mâconnais, where it always feels like the sun is shining. Currently, this is a staple for our Friday afternoon gatherings, perfectly complemented by homemade hummus. The wines of Domaine de Naisse are characterized by their extra richness due to the clay and limestone soil type and the many hours of sunshine they enjoy. Viré-Clessé is already known for it, but their Mâcon-Villages "Happy Naisse" also undeniably has this rich terroir. In 2020, winemaker Elodie was honored as the best talent of the Mâconnais with the esteemed GJPV Young Talents Trophy. Exactly the talent we are looking for!
The Mâconnais, located in the south of Bourgogne, is a region that is often overshadowed by the prestigious vineyards of the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits. Yet this region has attracted significant attention in recent years due to its excellent price-quality ratio of its wines. While the more well-known areas in Bourgogne often charge exorbitant prices, the Mâconnais offers high-quality wines with a unique character without heavily impacting the wallet. For many wine lovers discovering Bourgogne, the Mâconnais is a surprising find, proving that not all top wines need to come from the expensive end of the spectrum.
The Mâconnais is primarily known for its white wines, which are predominantly made from the Chardonnay grape. The region has numerous appellations, including Mâcon-Villages, Viré-Clessé, Pouilly-Fuissé, and Saint-Véran, which are the most prominent. These wines are fresh, fruity, and often characterized by a fine minerality that is reminiscent of the top wines from northern Bourgogne, but with a softer and more approachable style. The wines from the Mâconnais often have a distinct terroir that subtly varies by village, giving each bottle its own character.
The white Chardonnay wines from the Mâconnais are versatile and pair perfectly with a wide range of dishes. They are an excellent choice with shellfish, such as oysters, shrimp, lobster, and crab. Lighter fish dishes with subtle herb sauces also pair well with these wines. Additionally, they are ideal for pairing with poultry dishes, especially when served with mushrooms or light sauces. For dessert, these wines pair excellently with soft cheeses such as brie or camembert.
The red wines, made from the Gamay or Pinot Noir grape, are lighter in style and pair well with poultry, veal, duck, and chicken. They are less suitable for heavy game dishes but go fantastically well with earthy vegetables, mushrooms, root vegetables, and risotto. Both wine types, white and red, are versatile and can even be served with light desserts.
At Burgundy or Nowhere, you will find an extensive selection of Mâconnais wines, from well-known names to hidden gems. We are particularly enthusiastic about the wines from Domaine de la Chapelle, whose Saint-Véran is known for its impressive depth and complexity at a reasonable price. The Pouilly-Fuissé AX-B from the same domaine is also an excellent choice for those looking for a high-quality Mâconnais experience without the high price of the Côte d'Or. Our goal is to offer wines where the price reflects what is in the bottle, not just the name on the label.
