The best in its category. Crémant de Bourgogne often has a friendly and accessible character, but this example outshines many Champagnes. Personally, I prefer a special Crémant over an average Champagne. This organic/Demeter vintage (single harvest year) Blanc de Blancs Crémant de Bourgogne from Domaine Luolle is a refreshing and delightful sparkling wine made solely from the fresh Chardonnay grape of the Côte Chalonnaise (Moroges, near Givry). During the second fermentation, this Crémant developed a fine mousse over 12 months, resulting in small, delicate bubbles that dance on the tongue. It has a beautifully elevated mouthfeel, and if you told me it was Champagne, I'd believe you immediately. At Luolle, the grapes have been organically grown for generations, hand-picked, and stored in small crates. Pure Nature. This Crémant has notes of white flowers, flint, citrus, and quince. On the palate, this Crémant meets all expectations with a rich, aromatic, natural experience. Soft, dry, light, and refreshing. Perfect as an aperitif, with seafood, Thai cuisine, and special occasions!
Domaine Luolle is run by Olivier and Sandrine Dovergne. After a sailing journey around the world (called “Vents d’Anges”), Olivier and Sandrine decided to follow their passion and start producing their own wines. At the Luolle estate, located in the Cote Chalonnaise in Burgundy, they work on a charming estate that has practiced organic farming for three generations. With their motto “less is more,” they cherish simplicity and have chosen peace, strength, and freedom as their foundation. As Olivier and Sandrine say, they are the wine, and you can taste what they put into it. They handle every step themselves, from grape selection to vinification, bottling, and continuous learning of new techniques. In the wines of Domaine Luolle, you can taste the passion that has been poured into them.
Millésime
If the vintage year has been exceptionally good, only the wines from that harvest are combined into a cuvée, known as a millésimé. A good millésimé perfectly reflects the weather conditions of a specific year, meaning the character can vary from year to year. A millésimé is always brut. These wines are also stored in cellars for longer periods before being sold and have a long shelf life. Consider it a quality indicator rather than an expiration date.
Biodynamic beauty. The estate is located in the village of Moroges, near villages like Givry, Mercurey, Montagny, and Bouzeron in the Côte Chalonnaise. They handle every step themselves, from grape selection to vinification, bottling, and continuous learning of new techniques. They now produce highly drinkable Givry, Mercurey, and a range of magical sparkling wines. Midway through life, Olivier & Sandrine Dovergne decided to make a career change and move to Burgundy to establish a biodynamic wine estate. Sandrine, a history teacher, and Olivier, a biochemist/engineer, left their jobs and embarked on a three-year sailing journey with their two young children. During this journey, they became convinced that winemaking would be their next main pursuit. Eager to work in one of the world’s most beautiful wine regions, they moved to Burgundy. Wanting to work organically from the outset, they purchased the estate "La Luolle" from Guy Chaumont, who had maintained healthy, well-cared-for BIO vineyards for 50 years. This is the true pinnacle of organic farming, and you can taste it in these pure wines!
No overly long-lasting Premier Crus that need aging first, but ‘Vins de grand plaisir’ with seductively juicy fruit, charm, and immediate drinking pleasure, coupled with the intrinsic elegance and refinement of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and the fresher Aligoté grape. Both in still and sparkling form, they make their mark! Their Crémants, in our opinion, are Burgundy’s best-kept secret. Let's keep it that way.
