Alain Normand bewerkt 35 hectare in en rond La Roche-Vineuse, een oud dorp genesteld op de steile flank van de enorme kalkstenen uitloper die de naam geeft aan Vineuse. Dit dorp ligt schrijlings op de kleine pas die door de Mâcon-ruggen snijdt en naar Cluny leidt, de zetel van de macht van de benedictijnse monnikenorde in hun middeleeuwse hoogtijdagen.
